Physical Symptoms
In Stargardt's disease, the macula and the surrounding retina are affected. Although the retina and macula are in the back of the eye, the affect of this disease can can be seen outwardly. As the disease progresses, the macula begins to take on the effect of looking like "beaten metal." Small yellowish-white flecks (deposition of lipofuscin) also begin to appear in the peripheral retina.
